FA Cup Semi-Final Player Rating: Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United advanced into the final of the FA Cup on Saturday evening after a well deserved 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley and this win keeps the Red Devil’s ambition of finishing the season with a trophy.

Dele Alli gave Tottenham the lead in the 11th minute when Ashley Young was caught out of position at left-back and allowed Christian Eriksen to find space to pick out Dele Alli for a cool finish.

Manchester United equalised in the 24th minute through Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean connected a cross from Paul Pogba with a fine header to level the scores and no more goals were scored till the whistle for halftime was blown.

In the second half and with 62 minutes on the clock, Sanchez’s pass across Tottenham’s goal was poorly controlled by Romelu Lukaku before it rolled kindly to the path of  Ander Herrera who rifled home shot that beat Michel Vorm in goal for Spurs.

Manchester United sat on the lead and comfortably secured the much-needed win and a berth in the final of the FA  Cup, where they will face the winner of Chelsea against Southampton FA Cup semi-final match.

Manchester United player rating:

David de Gea – 5/10

He didn’t have much to do all through the match.

Antonio Valencia – 4/10

He just sat back in the defence and did the basic things right, he didn’t do anything worthy of mention in terms of supporting the attack.

Phil Jones – 6/10

He had an excellent game and ensured that Harry Kane’s effort at scoring was frustrated all evening.

Chris Smalling – 6/10

Smalling had an excellent game in the defence, although he might have been able to stop Alli’s goal if he was a bit more alert.

 Ashley Young – 5/10

He was caught napping in the build-up that led to the first goal, but he recovered from that incident to put up a solid display for Manchester United in defence.

Nemanja Matic – 6/10

He was all over the place and ensured that Spurs did not take absolute control of the midfield.

Ander Herrera – 7/10

Herrera seems to have found his magic touches, he was outstanding on Wednesday night and was excellent again today at Wembley. He scored the winning goal and he was the engine room of the Red Devil as they comfortably saw out the match.

Paul Pogba – 7/10

He has been pretty impressive in recent matches and continued the good form in this match. Pogba provided the assist for the first goal, with this sort of performance he has certainly started justifying the huge price tag on his head.

Jesse Lingard – 5/10

Lingard was just decent in attack, he caused the Spurs backline a lot of problems.

Alexis Sanchez – 8/10

This was a man of the match display for the Chilean hitman, he was a big problem for Spurs to deal with. Sanchez reminded Manchester United fans what he can do on a good day.

Romelu Lukaku – 6/10

He was the focal point of United’s attack and was excellent in leading the line.
