Taiwo Awoniyi Set To Join Frank Onyeka At Coventry City

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to leave the club after four years and join Coventry City, according to reports in the UK.

Awoniyi, who joined Forest in 2022, has been given permission to have a medical before a £17 million transfer to Coventry.

The Nigerian international will leave the City Ground on a permanent deal, just one week before the new season begins.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard reportedly played a major role in signing the forward and worked hard to make the transfer happen.

Awoniyi has played regularly for Forest in pre-season and scored once under new manager Oliver Glasner in recent weeks.

Now, he is set to leave after playing 45 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen in Forest’s final pre-season friendly.

Awoniyi was not certain to get first-team football under Glasner this season because of the many attacking options available.

Chris Wood, Igor Jesus, Dan Ndoye, and Arnaud Kalimuendo are all options to play up front for Forest.

As a result, the 29-year-old forward is moving to Forest’s Midlands rivals, where he will join Lampard at Coventry.

Awoniyi leaves Forest after playing 103 games for the club, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in total.

Last season, he appeared in 17 Premier League matches but started only three, scoring four goals and assisting one.
