Chelsea 1-1 West Ham United: Victor Moses Yet Again Average As Chelsea’s Top-Four Dream Is Shattered

Chelsea got a first-half lead through the Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta and was looking like a team that could send the Hammers to the cleaners until Javier Hernandez came on as a substitute to score the equaliser in the 73rd minute.

Antonio Conte’s men started off in blistering fashion and dictated the pace of the match. Chelsea created a lot of chances in the match but could not find the net as Wilian and Morata were wasteful up front.

This result has certainly dashed the top-four hopes of Chelsea, as they are now 10 points behind 4th-place Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea Player Rating:

Here’s how Chelsea players performed in the game.

Thibaut Courtois – 6/10

The Belgian goalkeeper had very little to do all through the game until Javier Hernandez popped up to score the equalising goal for West Ham. It was a quiet evening for the returning Chelsea keeper.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10

He was solid in defense as always and supported the attack really well. He also got the first goal for Chelsea. Azpilicueta had a superb all-round game.

Gary Cahill – 5/10

Cahill was in the Chelsea starting line-up for the first time after several weeks, he had a good game until he handed West Ham a route back into the game with a wayward headed clearance that leads to the equaliser for West Ham.

Antonio Rudiger – 7/10

He was comfortable with the ball on his feet, he was equally lively and solid in defense for Chelsea. If he continues this way he will be an integral part of a new Chelsea team next season.

Victor Moses – 5/10

Moses had an average game, although he defended decently he offered very little going forward, his form has been epileptic all season and he needs to up his game to justify his inclusion in the team. He was replaced by Pedro Rodriguez in the 78th m inute.

N’Golo Kante – 8/10

Kante was a rock in midfield, he anchored the midfield with authority and drove forward like a beast. He had a massive game and the Frenchman was one of the best Chelsea players on parade against West Ham.

Cesc Fabregas – 5/10

Cesc couldn’t control or dictate the rhythm of the game, he had a very quiet evening and provided very little offensive threat to the West Ham defense. He seems to have lost some of those attributes that made him one of the best midfielders in the World.

Marcos Alonso – 6/10

Alonso had a good game, though he was sometimes caught napping in defense. He almost scored the winner for Chelsea in the closing stages of the game but, was denied by an excellent fingertip save from Joe Hart.

Willian – 7/10

Willian was lively up front for Chelsea but was guilty of losing possession a couple of times, the Brazilian also had some decent chances to score which he wasted.

Alvaro Morata – 6/10

Morata had a decent game but seems to have a knack for going to ground quite easily at the slightest of touch. He needs to be on his feet more, he scored two goals which were correctly ruled offside. He was replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 78th minute.

Eden Hazard – 6.5/10

Hazard very lively and busy driving Chelsea’s attack, the Belgian was the live wire of all Chelsea’s attack but was just unable to find that killer pass or goal that would have sealed the win for Chelsea. He had an excellent game for the Blues.

Substitutes

Pedro – 5/10

The Spanish International tried to provide some extra bit of spark but just lacked that finishing instinct of Pedro of old.

Oliver Giroud – 6/10

Giroud had a decent performance in the few minutes he spent on the field. He gave the West Ham defense a bit of a push around with his physicality, something that Morata lacked.
