CSKA Moscow 2-2 Arsenal Player Rating: Wilshere Poor, Alex Iwobi And Danny Welbeck Shines Again

Arsenal was made to work hard by coming from 2-0 down to force CSKA Moscow to a 2-2 draw and book a place in the Semi-Final of the Europa League, qualifying 6-3 on aggregate.

CSKA Moscow gave Arsene Wenger’s men a big scare as they went 2-0 up by the 50th minute through goals from Fedor Chalov and Kirill Nababkin as a result of errors committed by Shkodran Mustafi and Petr Cech.

Arsenal came back into the game through a goal by Danny Welbeck in the 75th minute before Aaron Ramsey scored the second goal for Arsenal in added time to make the score two goals apiece and confirmed Arsenal’s place in the Semi-Final.

Here’s the rating for each Arsenal player:

Petr Cech  5/10

He made a great initial save in the build-up that leads to Fedor Chalov’s goal but was at fault for the second goal scored by Kirill Nababkin. Petr Cech, however, redeemed himself with a decent save to deny Aleksandr Golovin from scoring his second free-kick of the tie.

Hector Bellerin  6/10

Hector Bellerin had an average game, he didn’t bump forward like he normally does.

Shkodran Mustafi  5/10

Yet another terrible error from the once very reliable Shkodran Mustafi as he completely went to sleep and allowed Fedor Chalov the opportunity to score the opening goal in the 39th minute.

Laurent Koscielny  7/10

He had a good game, although he was shaky in the first half, but he still managed put up an above average performance and made some important blocks in the course of the game.

Nacho Monreal  6/10

Nacho Monreal was again quite anonymous in this one, he didn’t contribute much to the attack. He just did the simple things right.

Mohamed Elneny  8/10

He had an excellent game in the midfield and was responsible for giving the assist for the goals scored by Danny Welbeck in the 75th and Aaron Ramsey in added time.

Aaron Ramsey  7/10

This was not one of his best displays in the colours of Arsenal but was still on hand to pop up with a cheeky goal to make it 2-2 in the injury time of the encounter.

Jack Wilshere  3/10

Wilshere had a game to forget, he was awful in midfield, he gave away the ball carelessly on so many occasions and was rightly replaced in the 69th by Calum Chambers.

Mesut Ozil  6/10

He did excellently well in the first half, helping out in the defense a couple of times but was not able to replicate his first leg performance as he found the going tough and couldn’t carve out a decent scoring opportunity for the strikers.

Danny Welbeck  8/10

He scored a great goal to drag Arsenal back into the Europa League tie and was a torn in the flesh of the home defense all night. Danny Welbeck seems to have found his mojo back going by his performances in recent matches.

Alexandre Lacazette  5/10

He had a very quiet game, almost anonymous in the game. He was starved of decent service from the midfield and was replaced by Alex Iwobi in the 77th minute of the match.

Substitutes:

Calum Chambers  6/10

He bought a lot of calmness to the shaky Arsenal defense after replacing the ineffective Jack Wilshere in the 69th.

Alex Iwobi  6/10

Iwobi was lively in the attack for Arsenal, made his impact felt in the few minutes he spent on the pitch, although he missed a great chance to score and seal off the game for Arsenal before Aaron Ramsey’s goal.

The other Nigerian playing for CSKA Moscow Ahmed Musa played the entire match for CSKA Moscow. He was full of running all night but could not do much to alter the course of the match. He had a decent game.

The Europa League semi-final draw will also be made in Nyon, Switzerland, at 11:00.

Arsenal’s victory over CSKA Moscow means they will be in the draw and will face Atletico Madrid, Marseille or Red Bull Salzburg in the Semi-Final.
