UEFA Europa League: Ahmed Musa Scores, Helps CSKA Moscow Defeat Lyon, Arsenal Wins But Alex Iwobi is Benched

Nigerian Winger Ahmed Musa was in scintillating form for CSKA Moscow of Russia as he scored and helped them to a dramatic 3-2 away win over Lyon at the Groupama Stadium, the victory ensured the qualification CSKA Moscow into the quarter finals of UEFA Europa Leasgue on away goals rule.

Before the match CSKA Moscow chances of qualification into the quarter finals was in serious jeopardy as a result of the 1-0 lost at home to Lyon in the first leg two weeks ago. Going into this evenings match, Lyon the seven-time French champions were undefeated at home in nine European matches and were heavy favourites to claim another victory in front of home crowd. However Ahmed Musa and teams mates had other ideas. 

CSKA Moscow drew the first blood in the 39th minute through a goal by Aleksandr Golovin and the score remained that way until the 58th minute when the home side leveled the score through Gnaly Maxwell Cornet, then 2 minutes later, Ahmed Musa struck to give CSKA Moscow the lead in the 60th minute.

In the 65th minute, Pontus Wernbloom further compounded the misery of the home side by making it 3-1, Lyon however pulled a goal back in the 71st minute through Mariano Diaz but CSKA Moscow held on to a memorable victory and hence confirmed their spot in Friday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final draw.

Ahmed Musa apart from scoring the second goal for his team, also picked up a yellow card in the 36th minute, else where in the UEFA Europa League, Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute as Arsenal comfortably beat AC Milan 3-1 through a brace by Danny Welbeck and Granit Xhaka. Milan scored first in the 35th minute but were unable to sustain the momentum and eventually succumed to Arsene Wenger’s men.
