Chelsea Vs Huddersfield Town: Possible Lineups, Team News And Prediction

Chelsea will play Huddersfield Town in the penultimate game of the Premier League this season at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, the Blues will head into the game against Huddersfield Town with the knowledge that a win will take them level on points with Liverpool and extend the battle for a top-four finish into the last game of the season.

Also, David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town will travel to Stamford Bridge knowing fully well that a win would secure the club’s status in the top flight for another Premier League season. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea is finishing the season quite strongly, and if they are able to grab a top-four spot at the end of the season, then it will be a sweet end to what has almost become a season to forget.

The momentum is arguably with the Blues as the season comes to an end, Chelsea have recorded five consecutive wins in all competition, Conte’s men have shown a fighting spirit that was missing all season, the team has managed to grind out the result that ensures that their slim hopes of a top-four finish are still very much alive.

Huddersfield Town have not done too badly this season, we all expected them to struggle in the Premier League and most pundits tipped them as favourites to return back to the Championship, but they have shown determination and resilience that points to the fact that they can compete at the top level.

David Wagner’s men managed to pick up a vital point away to Manchester City at the weekend, with Chelsea and Arsenal still to come, the Terriers surely need the kind of fighting spirit and luck displayed against the Citizens to survive the drop. Huddersfield Town’s coach and players would be high in confidence after the goalless draw with Manchester City, a result which their coach described as “miraculous”.

Huddersfield Town head to Stamford Bridge for what would be a daunting task considering the fact that Chelsea is in no mood to drop points. However, the Terriers are no pushovers if you factor in the fact that they were able to take four points off Manchester United this season. On the other hand, Huddersfield Town has lost all of the other eight fixtures against top-six clubs this season.

Huddersfield Town is in a position where they know exactly what will be required for them to survive the drop, Swansea City and Southampton will do battle on Tuesday night. A win for either side will mean that what David Wagner’s side will require to be safe is just a single point.

The game on Wednesday will be the 66th time that the two clubs will be playing each other in a competitive match, Chelsea has recorded 29 wins while Huddersfield Town has 27 victories.

The teams have only met on four occasions since 1999, with Huddersfield winning a League Cup tie at Stamford Bridge during that year and Chelsea registering victories in the FA Cup in West London during 2006 and 2008.

However, in the reverse fixture earlier this season, Chelsea claimed a comfortable 3-1 victory against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Team News

Conte has confirmed that Alvaro Morata is available for selection after recovering from the fitness issue that ruled him out of the Liverpool clash. Morata will likely be on the substitutes’ bench, while one of Ross Barkley or Pedro will make way for him in the 18-man squad.

David Luiz and Danny Drinkwater are still out injured and are likely not to play any part in the club’s final game of the season at Stamford Bridge.

David Wagner has revealed that Tom Ince is back in contention for selection after spending time on the sidelines since April 14.

Defenders Terence Kongolo and Chris Lowe are both carrying knocks, but Wagner hopes to have the pair in his squad for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Possible Starting Lineup:
Courtois; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Rudiger; Moses, Kante, Bakayoko, Fabregas, Alonso; Hazard, Giroud

Huddersfield Town Possible Starting Lineup:
Lossl; Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Lowe; Hogg, Mooy, Kongolo, Hadergjonaj, Pritchard; Mounie

Prediction

Huddersfield Town will be brimming with confidence after gaining a surprise draw against Manchester City at the weekend but the match against Chelsea is a different scenario altogether, the Blues are desperately in search of points to sustain their push for a top-four finish and will likely not take the match lightly unlike Manchester City that had nothing at stake. Expect Chelsea to be business-like on Wednesday night and we think Chelsea will win comfortably by 3-0.
