Liverpool’s dominance in the Premier League has shown no signs of abating during the festive fixture pileup, and a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday saw their lead restored to 13 points as we head into the new year. Jurgen Klopp’s men have now won 10 Premier League matches on the bounce, and that draw at Old Trafford remains the only time they have dropped points this season. They look nailed on for the title, and their sensational record at Anfield has played a big part in their recent success.
The hosts are now unbeaten in 50 Premier League home games, 40 of which have ended in a Liverpool win. Their last failure to win a top-flight match at Anfield came at the end of January 2019, so the travelling Sheffield United support won’t be holding out much hope on Thursday.
The Blades’ long-standing unbeaten record away from home came to an end on Sunday as they lost 2-0 at Manchester City, but once again it was far from a disastrous display from the newly promoted underdogs. Even after this defeat, they remain in a very respectable 8th place in the top flight, and they’ll definitely make life hard for Liverpool on Thursday.
However, the fact that they mustered no shots on target at the Etihad is a sign of how things are likely to go at Anfield, so we’re not expecting much from them going forward. This game could potentially be put to bed quite early on as well.
