Cologne has now won eight of their last 11 league games, sitting on a 14 point cushion over the relegation spots and now in serious contention for Europa League qualification. They have scored a massive 27 goals in these 11 games and have only failed to beat Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Borussia Monchengladbach – all teams residing in the Bundesliga top four.
Meanwhile, Mainz finds themselves just four points clear of the relegation playoff position and were denied the three points by a late Fortuna Dusseldorf equaliser last time out. They have won just two of their last nine Bundesliga outings and find themselves in this precarious position largely due to their ineptitude at the back.
