Red Hot Victor Osimhen Scores A Brace For Lille In Ligue 1 Debut
Super Eagles Forward Victor Osimhen was in sparkling form in his Ligue 1 debut for French club Lille as he bagged a brace to hand Lille their first league win of the season against Nantes at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Victor Osimhen who joined Lille from Belgian side Charleroi on a five-year deal started the match and scored his first goal in the 19th minute through an assist by Jose Fonte, the first half of the encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the home team Lille.
On resumption of hostility in the second half, Nantes increase their tempo and were duly rewarded with an equaliser in the 51st minute through a Zeki Celik own goal.
There were no further goals in the match till the 80th minute when the former youth international Victor Osimhen popped up to score his second goal of the pulsating match through an assist by Zeki Celik, who to a large extent redeemed himself after gifting Nantes an equaliser.
The second goal by Victor Osimhen was good enough to hand Lille their first league win of the new season. It was a dream debut for the Nigerian international.
Osimhen, 20, was part of the Nigeria squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations and scored 20 goals in 36 appearances for Charleroi last season.
The arrival of Osimhen, for a fee that reportedly could rise to 14 million euros ($15.5 million), was as a result of the sale of Nicolas Pepe and Rafael Leao to Arsenal and AC Milan respectively.
Lille finished second to Paris Saint-Germain last season and qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2012-13.
