John Obi Mikel Scores First Goal Of The Season In China

Captain of the Super Eagles and Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda, John Obi Mikel scored his first goal of the new Chinese season as Tianjin Teda took on Guangzhou R&F in a week six match of the Chinese Super League at the Tianjin Olympic Sports Centre.

John Obi Mikel started for Tianjin Teda in the midfield but things didn’t go as planned for Mikel and teammates as they conceded an early goal with Zhizhao Chen getting on the score sheet for Guangzhou R&F in the 8th minute.

However, Tianjin Teda rallied back and got an equaliser in the 27th minute through their mercurial midfielder and Captain John Obi Mikel who grabbed his first goal of the season, two minutes later in the 29th minute Jiakang Hui scored the second goal for Tianjin Teda to make the scoreline 2-1 at half-time.

No further goal was scored in the match as both teams cancelled out each other, Tianjin Teda won the encounter 2-1 to record their second victory of the season in the six weeks old Chinese Super League.

John Obi Mikel has started every single match played by Tianjin Teda in the league this season, he has played a total of 540 minutes, got yellow carded once and has a goal to his credit.

Last season John Obi Mikel also scored a goal for Tianjin Teda in the Chinese Super League as his club miraculously survived relegation after a very poor start to the season, however, this season has been different for Tianjin Teda and John Mikel Obi.

Tianjin Teda is currently eighth on the Chinese Super League table with eight points from two wins, two draws and two losses. Tianjin Teda’s next league match is on 22nd April away to current league leaders Shanghai SIPG FC.
