Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain, France – Ligue 1, At Stade Louis II. Time: 20:00

We’re just going to say this now. This match could get very ugly for Monaco as they come up against a PSG side in some of the best form we’ve seen since the QSi takeover.

PSG have played 12 league games this season and won all of them in what has been such a fantastic start to Thomas Tuchel’s career at the club. Tuchel has always been about completely blowing the opponent away with attacking speed and accuracy and this is exactly what has happened here.

PSG has scored at least three goals on ten occasions this season which is an absolutely astounding statistic when you consider some of the teams they have come up against like Lyon (5-0), Saint-Etienne (4-0) and Rennes (3-1). They have been unstoppable domestically and their only real challenges have come on the continent.

Their only loss this season came against Liverpool away from home in a match where they still scored twice, something that doesn’t happen at Anfield much these days. Napoli has also proven difficult customers with two draws (2-2, 1-1) but PSG also beat Red Star Belgrade 6-1, a team that Liverpool lost 2-0 to recently.

The Champions League matches were always going to be a challenge but the main thing to learn from PSG this season is that, at this pace, no team is going to match them and they actually could go the season unbeaten as the stupid defeats to Strasbourg and Rennes have been washed out of Tuchel’s system apparently.

Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edinson Cavani already have 25 goals between them. Twenty. Five. Which leads us to believe there could be a hattrick in this match as Monaco have almost been welcoming goals against them.

The Monegasque are in real trouble. They currently sit 19th in the league, are still to win a match under new manager Thierry Henry and their owner Dmitry Rybolovlev has been arrested on suspicion of corruption. It’s been quite the week in the principality but let’s focus on the football.

Monaco is winless in their last 15 games and not much progress seems to have been made under new manager Thierry Henry. The World Cup winner is still very much a rookie in terms of football management and must be given time to sort this situation that isn’t even his fault, but Monaco really needs results fast.

He has already taken charge of five matches in what he has garnered two draws amongst the losses, conceding 10 and scoring just four. These haven’t been overly difficult games either and the Monaco side of last year would have been expected to steamroll these sides.

Monaco had a great chance to win either of their matches against Reims, Dijon or their Champions League double header with Club Brugge but they couldn’t muster a single win. They needed a 78th-minute equaliser from Kamil Glik to draw with a poor Dijon side at home and failed to cope with newly-promoted Reims (0-1) despite the opposition going down to ten men just after the break.

The matches against Club Brugge should have also been pretty easy but the Belgians managed to score five past Monaco across these games, including four at the Stade Louis-II in a humiliating defeat which sparked outrage in the stands. They haven’t scored any in their last two games and now face the best team in France who have conceded just seven goals all season, so it could get messy in the principality.

This will be Thierry Henry’s first big grudge match in France and while these used to be some of the most exciting to watch, especially in Monaco’s title-winning campaign, we’re expecting this match to be difficult viewing for their fans. PSG have scored at least three goals in ten of their 12 league matches this season and with Monaco conceding four in midweek at home, we’re expecting a similar outcome.

Against the league’s worst teams, PSG has scored planet of goals such as Caen (3-0), Guingamp (3-1) and Nimes (4-2) and with Monaco conceding 15 in their last eight home games, we’re going to predict PSG to score at least four goals. PSG have just been too unstoppable for us to predict anything less and with them beating Monaco 4-0 in the French Super Cup just before the league started a few months ago, we don’t see why it can’t happen again.

Monaco hasn’t scored in their last two matches and doesn’t look like scoring soon, so we think any centre-back partnership made up of Marquinhos, Kehrer, Silva or Kimpembe will eat this Monaco attack right up. We’re backing a very comfortable away win for PSG.
