Few would have predicted this encounter to have so much weight last season as Lille finished 17th, just one point above the relegation play-off place, but they have been a changed team this year under Christoph Galtier.

The ex-Saint-Etienne man has had them running at such a high level this year and this has resulted in them winning eight of their opening 12 matches this season. They’ve already bested teams like Marseille, Rennes and Etienne and they now find themselves in a great position to really do something special this season.

They had the chance to cut PSG’s lead at the top to just five points last week but ultimately failed, losing 2-1. It was the closest any domestic team had held PSG this season though, which just highlights the work that Galtier has done in charge. Lille held the Parisians for an hour before Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring at the Parc des Princes and Neymar added a second.

Nicolas Pepe bagged a late motivating penalty, but they couldn’t find a second, as the match finished 2-1. This was still an achievement considering the state Lille was in last season and they should be looking to get back to winning ways here at home.

Strasbourg has been in great form recently with them unbeaten in their last six matches. They currently sit 7th after 12 games and Thierry Laurey’s men have been going above and beyond many of this season’s predictions.

Similar to Lille, last season wasn’t great in terms of league standings, but they have started to cement themselves as a Ligue 1 club in this second year in the top division. Nuno Da Costa and Lebo Mothiba have been the main men in an attacking sense for them this season as they already have 10 goals between them.

This offensive threat has already seen them better Monaco, Bordeaux and Lille in the cup and they seem to be a team high on confidence at the moment. Last week’s draw with Toulouse was a slight dip in form for them but they should turn up for this match with the belief they can get something from it.

We doubt Lille will let them do that though. They will be desperate to get back to winning ways after two successive defeats across the league and cup and we’re expecting Strasbourg to face the full brunt of Jonathan Bamba and Nicolas Pepe.

Lille have won each of their last eight home matches and have turned the Stade Pierre-Mauroy into a fortress with clean sheets against Marseille and Caen in recent weeks. They have also scored 15 in their last eight matches and we’re backing them to bag at least two in this game.

Strasbourg is unbeaten since September, but consecutive points dropped against Toulouse and Guingamp have signalled a slight drop in form for us, which is why we’re backing Lille to win this match 2-1. Strasbourg has scored in 12 of their 13 matches this season so we think they’ll get on the score-sheet here. However, to play safe our main prediction will be a home win or draw.
