Benfica head into Thursday’s Taça de Portugal tie on the back of a 3-1 win in the Primeira Liga away at Tondela. A first-minute own goal from Conti saw Tondela take the lead against Benfica, but the hosts were pegged back eight minutes later by a Jonas equaliser.

In a match in which chances were few and far between, Arouca will have been pleased to have claimed all three points against Leixões. The first half passed without either side creating any clear-cut opportunities, but seven minutes into the second forty-five Arouca were awarded a penalty which Victor Guilherme converted to make it 1-0.

One goal looked like it would be enough to win the game, but just to be sure Bukia made it 2-0 in the sixty-ninth minute to ensure Arouca claimed all three points.

Pizzi and Rafa Silva top score in the Primeira Liga for Benfica this season with four goals, while Victor Guilherme and Bukia have scored three goals apiece in the Segunda Liga for Arouca.

Benfica sits fourth in the table, which by their high standards isn’t good enough, but they remain in the title race, both domestic cups, and could still qualify from their Champions League group. The hosts have a busy week ahead of them with a trip to Germany on Tuesday where they will face Bayern Munich, so the favourites could opt to rotate their starting lineup on Thursday.
