Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom On The Verge Of Joining PAOK

It seems like Unai Emery has started the process of trimming his squad, Emery desperately needs to offload several players over the coming days and Arsenal academy graduate Chuba Akpom is looking like the first casualty of the impending clear out looming at the Emirates.

The 22-year-old English born Nigerian striker has been on our books of Arsenal since he was a kid but has greatly struggled to force his way into the first team.

Akpom has made just 12 first team appearances for the club in contrast to fellow academy graduate Alex Iwobi who is now an integral member of the first team and is on the verge of signing a new and improved contract that will keep him at the Emirates until 2022.

News has emerged that Greek club PAOK Thessaloniki is interested in the service of Chuba Akpom, who spent most of last season on loan at Belgian club St. Truiden.

Akpom has spent the better part of the past three seasons out on loan to different clubs but it looks like Emery has made it clear he’s not part of his plans and a deal worth around £2m is claimed to have been agreed for the striker to join PAOK on a permanent basis.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubamyenag and Alexandre Lacazette vying for the starting position up front and the likes of Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez also ahead of him in the pecking order Akpom was going to struggle for game time this year.

The report says the young forward is due in Greece any moment from now to finalise the move so we could well see Chuba Akpom be the first player to secure a transfer away from Arsenal over the coming days.
