Mainz 05 managed to survive the drop last season and Balogun made only 15 appearances for the German club in all competitions in the recently concluded season, his limited appearance was partly due to injury and falling out with the club management after he refused to sign a new contract with the club.

The German-born defender was instrumental in helping the Super Eagles qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, he has 16 caps for the Super Eagles and is set to feature for Nigeria at the Mundial next month.
