Taiwo Awoniyi Joins Gent On Loan From Liverpool

Former Nigerian Youth international Taiwo Awoniyi has completed a season-long loan move to Belgium top division side Gent from English Premier League side Liverpool.

The 20-year-old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi recently signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool where the top management of the Mersey side club holds him in high regard.

It is believed that the loan move to Gent will aid the development of the player, as Liverpool is interested in him gaining regular playing time and experience in order to fast-track his progress and subsequent integration into Liverpool’s first team in the nearest future.

The loan deal to Gent has been on the card for some time but Liverpool was keen on tying the striker down to a long-term deal before they will sanction a loan move for him, there were quite a number of clubs that wanted Awoniyi on loan.

However, Gent was the prefered choice since he was already playing in Belgium and is used to the league and the environment, Gent is a step up when compared to his previous club Mouscron. Awoniyi scored 11 goals for Mouscron before his season went cut short by an injury.
