Wycombe and Tranmere will meet each other for the third time in just over a week on Wednesday evening. Having emerged victorious in the league at the weekend, the Chairboys will be hoping to land a quickfire double. The visitors will be looking to exact revenge for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat.

When the pair met at Prenton Park just over a week ago, the contest was reasonably even. Both teams produced pleasing attacking moments, while neither covered themselves in defensive glory, as they both surrendered not only two goals, but almost the same number of shots, shipping 15 (Tranmere) and 16 (Wycombe).

However, there was nothing even about the game that took place at that venue just a few days ago. Wycombe travelled to Prenton Park for the second time in seven days on Sunday, this time in League 1, and were fully deserving of the three points, as they delivered a commanding performance to win by two goals to nil.

On that occasion, it was Tranmere who led the way in terms of both possession and shots, but they failed to conjure up any real gilt-edged chances, whereas the Chairboys were clinical when getting forward.

Having done the business on Sunday, Gareth Ainsworth’s men are likely to approach this game full of confidence, and rightly so. Not only did they win well last time out, but they’re yet to taste defeat at home in League 1, winning seven out of nine. Unsurprisingly, no team in the division has taken more home points than Wycombe.

In contrast, Tranmere has struggled on their travels, winning just two out of eight, losing five of the other six. Scoring goals has been an issue for Rovers, who’ve scored only six times away from home, while they’ve also found it tough to stop the team from deliver ing the goods going forward, conceding no less than 18 goals.

In the betting, Wycombe are warm favourites, though they could probably be a tad shorter. On this basis, a punt on the hosts, who were convincing when beating Tranmere just a few days ago, is worthwhile. Wycombe’s home efforts this term have simply been considerably better than Tranmere’s travelling exploits.

The Chairboys have scored more than twice as many goals at home as Rovers have on the road, while they’ve been stronger defensively and in terms of shot. Wycombe, who’re the third-best team in the division when it comes to shots on target at home, have average shot supremacy of +4.78 at home. Tranmere’s average shot supremacy on the road is -3.13.

In the ‘Correct Score’ market, a repeat of Sunday’s 2-0 win stands out. Not only are Wycombe, who’ve kept a clean sheet in more than half of their League 1 games this season, averaging 2.11 goals for at home, but they’ve kept four clean sheets at Adams Park, while Tranmere has failed to score in a rather chunky 38% of their games this term.

The fact that the visitors were unable to make their presence felt in the final third when hosting Wycombe just a few days ago also adds fuel to the above. Our prediction is a home win or a draw for Wycombe Wanderers.
