Arsenal FC vs Leicester City, England – Premier League, At Emirate Stadium. Time: 20:15
Arsenal were able to boost their European hopes with a victory on Saturday, as they saw off Champions League hopefuls Wolves. They won 2-0 to move into the top seven, which leaves them just three points off Wolves.
With the Gunners sitting eight points shy of the top four, their Champions League chances are slim. However, they could put a major dent in Leicester’s top-four push with a win in this one.
Leicester won for the first time in three games when they beat Leicester on Saturday, but the visitors still aren’t back to their best. They’ve been struggling throughout 2020, while they have the 14th best record across the last eight matches.
That’s half as many as Arsenal have picked up in that time, a return which has seen faith in Mikel Arteta grow, along with the Gunners chances of a return to the Europa League.

The pressure is growing on Leicester after their mixed run of form. Not only has it dumped them out of the FA Cup, but winning just two of nine league games has seen the rest of the bunch close the gap. Chelsea, Manchester United and Wolves are all within six points of the third-placed Foxes, a gap which could well be cut in midweek.
A key part of the home side’s run of form has been their results at the Emirates of late. They have won their previous four home games, conceding in just one of those victories. Meanwhile, they have scored 12 times in that run.
The Gunners won only three home matches under Unai Emery this season, but they’ve won five times in seven home league matches under Arteta’s lead. That great record at the Emirates should worry Leicester, who have struggled in their away games so far.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a player who enjoys the Emirates. The striker has scored five times in his last four league matches here, while six of his last seven Premier League strikes have come at the Emirates.
We expect him to add to that total this week, as he looks to make up some ground on opponent and golden boot rival Jamie Vardy, who sits two goals ahead of him. After scoring a brace in his last home outing, Aubameyang should be lively here.
While Arsenal enjoys the Emirates, the same can’t be said for Leicester. The Foxes have lost all five of their visits to this ground since they were last promoted to the Premier League. Overall, the Gunners have won nine straight home meetings with Leicester. Given how impressive the home side have been at this ground, that’s a run that is likely to continue this week.
Arsenal has sparked into form after their early struggles after the restart. They’ve won each of their last four games in all competitions, while they come into this one having won six of their last eight Premier League matches.
That has come with impressive displays, which has seen the Gunners win at Southampton, Wolves and Sheffield United. With excellent form at the Emirates behind them, things are looking good for the hosts.
Leicester are looking to improve on some decidedly mixed form on the road. They’ve failed to win in any of their last five trips, with goals an issue for the Foxes on the road. They’ve scored just three times in that run.
While they have hit 30 league goals in away games, nine of those games at one clash at Southampton. A huge 24 of them have been scored against sides in the bottom half, with Brendan Rodgers leading his team to just one win at a current top-half side – a 2-1 success at Sheffield United back in August.
With Arsenal in form, bossing things at the Emirates, and on a roll against Leicester, we expect them to secure a win on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, six of their last seven Premier League victories have been to nil, with the Gunners on a three-game winning streak without conceding a goal. Following that form, a 2-0 victory for the Gunners is our pick for this encounter.
Johnny Evans has stepped up as Leicester’s main man at the back after the departure of Harry Maguire. While he’s played his part in a strong defence this term, the Northern Irishman will be one of the senior players the others look to in the run-in. However, Evans will remember his experience at the Emirates last season, when Aubameyang scored twice against the Foxes.
Evans will need to be on edge here, with a couple of inexperienced partners at the back in James Justin and Calgar Soyuncu. That inexperience has hurt Leicester at times this season, as they’ve conceded from the second-highest number of penalties in the top flight.
That would allow Aubameyang a straightforward chance to put Arsenal ahead and extend his own great record at the Emirates this term, which has seen him score 10 times here – including those five in his last four.
Aubameyang should test Leicester, and their success in dealing with that will likely hang around Evans’ shoulders. Having seen his side fail to keep clean sheets at Liverpool, City, Chelsea, United and Sheffield United this term, we think that the Arsenal forward will edge this encounter.
Arteta has got a lot out of the 3-4-3 setup that he recently swapped to, so expect the Gunners to go three at the back once again. The weekend saw them start with Bukayo Saka wide on the left.
He is pushing for another start after scoring, but the Gunners also welcome back Nicolas Pepe after he missed the trip to Wolves with his partner in labour.
Arsenal predicted line-up: Martinez – Mustafi, Luiz, Kolasinac – Soares, Ceballos, Xhaka, Tierney – Pepe, Aubameyang, Lacazette
Leicester may have won at the weekend, but they saw Ayoze Perez and Ben Chilwell added to the injury list. James Maddison sat out at the weekend and he’s unlikely to return to the side for the visit to Arsenal.
Leicester predicted line-up: Schmeichel – Justin, Evans, Soyuncu, Fuchs – Ndidi – Albrighton, Tielemans, Praet, Barnes – Vardy
Prediction: Our prediction is a home win or a draw for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this evening.
