Chelsea FC vs Liverpool FC, England – Premier League, Stamford Bridge, Time: 20:00

Graham Potter’s Chelsea departure came as a shock on Sunday night, not due to the history of the club or the performances on the pitch, but because of the timing. Having survived the aftermath of a 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Todd Boehly’s decision was reportedly decided off the back of a meeting with Potter on Sunday morning. If the shambolic display on Saturday evening wasn’t enough to force them into a decision, then it’s hard to imagine just how badly that meeting went.

It’s time to bash the bookies and gradually recover all that you’ve lost to the bookies in the past. While it’s quite fitting that Potter’s spell was broken by a side just nine miles outside of Dudley, the move doesn’t exactly bring certainty. Chelsea has been left without a manager for their final 10 Premier League games, with Potter’s former assistant Bruno taking charge.

It’s hard to know how the team will look under a coach who was a key part of Potter’s Brighton reign, but the managerial change should at least get players back in their natural positions. After that, with little left to play for in the league and a long recruitment process to come, the future is uncertain at Stamford Bridge once again.

Facing Potter’s laborious Chelsea side would have been perfect for Liverpool, who were just pulled apart by Man City at the weekend. The Reds slipped eight points shy of the top four after a 4-1 defeat at the Etihad, a result which put their defensive issues on full display.

The visitors have managed just three league clean sheets all season on their travels and two of those came against the relegation-threatened bottom nine.

The Reds have conceded 24 of the 33 goals they’ve let in this term on the road, which should boost Chelsea fans who are looking for a departure from their goal-shy form of the season.

Much has been made of Chelsea’s issues in front of goal, but it’s the defence that needs focus right now. The hosts shipped two goals to Aston Villa having just shipped two to a blunt Everton outfit before the international break. With one clean sheet in six league games, the Chelsea defence is unlikely to hold Liverpool at bay.

Both of these sides are underperforming in terms of Expected Goals, but that shouldn’t be a huge factor when you look at the way they’re struggling to regain composure at the back.

Saturday showed that Liverpool has gaps in their midfield which is costing them dearly, while a managerial change can’t address some of the clangers Chelsea has dropped in recent games.

Liverpool’s opener at City came from a mix of good hold-up play from Jota, hesitation from the City backline, and quick thinking from Mo Salah.

When you watch that back-to-back with Ollie Watkins’ opener at Stamford Bridge, it’s hard to see Salah not punishing his former side. The forward has seven goals in his last eight for club and country and has hit four league goals against the Blues.

Each of the last five meetings between Chelsea and Liverpool in all competitions has been draws and these two look hard to split going into Tuesday’s clash. As poor as the Blues have been, the Reds have dropped points at every bottom-half side they’ve visited so far this season. Our prediction is a home win or a draw for Chelsea.
