From a performance point of view, the Ukrainians weren’t up to much last week, but they’re likely to be a different side on their own patch. In qualifying the last term, they weren’t great away from home, as they drew with Slavia Praha and Ajax, though they beat the former and drew with the latter in Ukraine. Moreover, Kyiv has lost none of their four home qualifiers, three of which they’ve won, since 2016.

Unlike Tuesday’s hosts, Club Brugge will be happy with their overall performance last week, but they’ll probably be disappointed with the fact that they go to Ukraine with just a single-goal advantage. They also beat French outfit Monaco away from home, scoring four goals on route to victory. Such results may not have much bearing on how they fare this term, but they do at least show that Brugge, who still have much the same squad (give or take a few players), are capable.

The early betting suggests that Dynamo Kyiv are highly likely to emerge victorious from this match, though for all they do deserve to be favourites at home, it’s easy to feel that they’re slightly too short. They may offer more at home, as is almost always the case with Eastern European sides, but their effort last week created a negative impression.

In truth, from a betting point of view, this is anything but an enticing game. For those who want to be involved, ‘Club Brugge +1 Handicap’ is a sensible route in. The visitors prevented Kyiv from creating much last week, while they’ve got something to protect.

Add in the fact that they did a good job on the road against sides better than Tuesday’s host the last term and that backing the visitors to avoid defeat looks the best option. Our main prediction is a +2 Goals Handicap for Club Brugge and Brugge wins.
