Manchester City vs Burnley FC, England – Premier League, At Etihad Stadium, Time: 16:00

Manchester City maintained their superb continental form in mid-week with a Phil Foden-inspired 1-0 win over Olympiakos – a victory that secured the Citizens’ passage to the knockout phase of the tournament for the seventh season in a row.

Domestically, however, City has been floundering, and the four-time Premier League champions are languishing down in 13th placed having amassed just 12 points from their first eight fixtures of the new campaign.

It’s time to bash the bookies and gradually recover all that you’ve lost to the bookies in the past. City’s reputation for free-flowing, high-scoring football has also taken a knock this term, and with the usually prolific Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and Sergio Aguero hitting just three league goals between them since the summer, the Citizens’ final third output has been uncharacteristically meagre.

Burnley’s lengthy wait for a first Premier League win of the new season finally ended last weekend, when the Clarets battled their way to a 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace.

With James Tarkowski and Ben Mee reunited at the heart of their defence, Sean Dyches men have now kept clean sheets in each of their last two outings, however, finding the net at the other end continues to be a priority problem the Clarets just can’t seem to fix.

Chris Wood’s winning goal against the Eagles last week was Palace’s only successful strike in their last 450 minutes of Premier League football, and we don’t expect their fortunes to improve in that department against City on Saturday.

Manchester City has been making light work of Burnley in recent seasons, and on Saturday, the Citizens will be targeting their seventh straight victory over the Clarets in all competitions.

City’s last three encounters with the lads from Lancashire at the Etihad Stadium saw the hosts run of a hefty 15-0 aggregate score thanks to a trio of successive 5-0 victories, and with Burnley’s final third struggles a major factor this season, another win to nil could be in the offing for the Manchester giants this weekend.

Only five Premier League clubs have racked up fewer attempts than Burnley on the road this season, and when the Clarets last visited the Etihad Stadium in June, they mustered just one shot in total, and that was a limp long-range effort from about 35 yards out from Dwight McNeil.

With Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte’s defensive partnership developing well, we expect the hosts to be largely unthreatened again by a Burnley team lacking sparkle, and that in turn makes the Citizens win to nil market well worth considering again for Saturday’s game.

Manchester City already beat Burnley once this season when the teams were drawn together in the Carabao Cup, and England international Raheem Sterling was the architect of the Clarets’ demise.

The 25-year-old scored two of City’s three goals at Turf Moor, and with the previous form to draw confidence from, Sterling is worth backing to get in on the act again.

The injury picture at Man City has been steadily improving lately, and Dutch defender Nathan Ake looks to be the Citizens’ only confirmed absentee ahead of Saturday.

Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero are both available for selection again, though the pair could start from the substitute’s bench.

Jack Cork, Robbie Brady, and Dale Stephens are all sidelined for Burnley this weekend, though Phil Bardsley, Charlie Taylor, and Erik Pieters will all be pushing to start having returned to the bench last week against Crystal Palace. Our prediction is a home win for Manchester City.
