Norwich City vs Tottenham Hotspur, England – Premier League, At Carrow Road. Time: 18:30
Norwich put in another dismal display on Boxing Day as they succumbed to a potentially disastrous 1-0 defeat away to relegation rivals Aston Villa. That defeat sent them to the bottom of the Premier League table and leaves them some seven points adrift of safety.
There has been very little sign of them mounting a resurgence either. The Canaries are now winless in six Premier League matches, with that November victory away to Everton being their only league win in 14 attempts. Things get no better for them at Carrow Road either, where Norwich have lost five of their last six outings.
Without a doubt, the hosts’ main area of weakness is at the back. Their defeat to Aston Villa on Boxing Day leaves them with the worst defensive record in the top flight, with their 38 goals conceded even putting them behind a Southampton side that lost 9-0 against Leicester earlier this season.
Then again, Tottenham Hotspur’s defence isn’t exactly world-class at the moment, and this has become especially true since Jose Mourinho took charge. They have conceded 10 goals in the seven league games since Mourinho was appointed, keeping just one clean sheet in the process.
Not that the Spurs fans will mind too much – this change in strategy has seen their goalscoring ability rise dramatically, scoring 16 goals in these seven matches and winning five of them. They may be behind the curve when it comes to beating high-level opposition, but they certainly know how to make their dominance count against the lesser sides.
The propensity for both teams to leak goals at the back makes this look like a potentially exciting fixture. Spurs haven’t kept a clean sheet away from home in the league since their first match of 2019, shipping 27 goals in these 16 matches. Norwich is yet to keep a home clean sheet this season in the league, and they’ve conceded at least two goals in each of their last eight at Carrow Road.
With both Norwich and Spurs finding the net in all but one of their respective home and away league games this season, backing Both Teams to Score looks fantastic value for money.
