Los Che clinched 4th place in La Liga last weekend with a victory at Valladolid. Having been ten points adrift of the Champions League places at one stage, it was certainly an impressive achievement. Valencia has also made the last four of the Europa League this season and they will need to summon the energy for one final game after a very busy few months.

Barcelona has utterly dominated this competition in recent years. They are targeting a 5th straight Copa del Rey triumph this weekend in Seville. They’ve already won the other two main domestic competitions in Spain this season so, despite their frailties in Europe, it will have to go down as another successful campaign if they win more silverware here.

Valencia looks capable of pushing Barca close though. One of the toughest matches anybody has given Barcelona this season was the most recent meeting between these clubs. Valencia utilised their usual counter-attacking style brilliantly and left Camp Nou with a 2-2 draw in a game they probably should have won.

That was their 3rd game in a 17 match unbeaten streak in all competitions which really catapulted them into contention on three fronts. Despite a slow start, they only lost 7 times this season in La Liga, 5 fewer than Real Madrid. Only 3 of those defeats were by more than a single goal so there’s a strong reason to doubt Barcelona’s ability to run away with this game in the manner they did in last season’s Copa del Rey Final.

Barcelona’s selection problems are another major concern for the favourites. Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele are both injured which leaves them once again hugely dependent on Leo Messi for attacking inspiration. Their final league game at Eibar last weekend was basically a dress rehearsal for this game but it wasn’t a great performance and they again had Messi to thank for the 2-2 draw they got, with the Argentine netting both Barca goals.

There are expected to be few changes from that side and Valencia, who ended the season strongly with 3 straight wins and 11 goals, will fancy their chances. Backing Valencia +1.0 Asian Handicap looks like a decent punt.
