Crystal Palace vs Burnley FC, England – Premier League, At  Selhurst Park. Time: 20:00

Crystal Palace may have played a crucial part in handing Liverpool their first-ever Premier League title when they were hammered 4-0 at Anfield on Wednesday, but in general, The Eagles are performing very well at the moment.

The hosts find themselves up in 10th position in the Premier League, just a point adrift of Arsenal and even in with a shout of challenging for Europe. 7th place Tottenham, for example, sit only three points above them.

This is largely thanks to an excellent run prior to their thrashing in Liverpool. Their 2-0 win over Bournemouth last weekend was their fourth win on the bounce, with wins to nil against Newcastle, Brighton and Watford prior to that triumph at the Vitality Stadium.

For Burnley, that doesn’t come as good news. The Clarets are also enjoying a relatively respectable season, lying in 11th position and only a point behind Crystal Palace. A win for either team on Monday could propel them into serious contention for Europa League qualification – something neither will have thought likely at the beginning of the campaign.

Also akin to their opponents, Burnley has already suffered one heavy defeat since Project Restart got underway. They were demolished 5-0 by former champions Manchester City but bounced back in midweek with a hard-fought win over Watford at Turf Moor.

Burnley’s form away from home is far from abysmal, but it is cause for concern when they visit Selhurst Park. They have lost seven of their 15 games and, more worryingly, scored just 14 goals.

On Monday they travel to a stadium renowned for its lack of goalmouth action. Selhurst Park has seen a total of just 25 goals in 15 Premier League matches this term, an average of 1.67 goals per game.

From Burnley’s side, they’re undergoing a real selection crisis right now. Jay Rodriguez was forced off in midweek and is a doubt here, along with star strikers Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes. Matej Vydra is currently their only fit striker, leaving attacking options in short supply for the Clarets.

As you might expect, our predictions lean towards another low scoring affair on Monday. 13 of Crystal Palace’s 15 Premier League home games this season have produced fewer than three goals, and Burnley aren’t exactly familiar with thrillers.

The Clarets have only seen over 2.5 goals in three of their last seven on the road, and two of those were thrashings at Chelsea and Manchester City, so backing Under 2.5 Goals here looks attractive.

It’s also worth noting Crystal Palace’s excellent recent record against Burnley. They have won four matches on the bounce against Sean Dyche’s side, keeping a clean sheet on three occasions.

They have also won six of their nine home games against bottom-half sides this season, keeping a clean sheet on six occasions and only losing once. Four of these games have ended 1-0 to The Eagles, so that’s what we’re opting for as our correct score prediction.

It might also be worth taking a risk on Crystal Palace to win to nil at excellent odds. Five of the hosts’ six home wins this season have resulted in a clean sheet as well, and all of these came against teams in the bottom half of the Premier League.

They have won four of their last five home and away and kept a clean sheet in all of their three-point hauls during this period, again with all of these coming against teams outside the top ten. Burnley, meanwhile, has failed to score in each of their last five Premier League away defeats, four of which came against top-half opposition.

Wilfried Zaha was forced off at Anfield after just 15 minutes and is a doubt here, so Max Meyer could get a start if the Ivory Coast attacker fails to recover in time. Christian Benteke is another potential absentee, although top scorer Jordan Ayew was always going to be the first choice upfront anyway.

Crystal Palace predicted lineup: Guaita – Ward, Sakho, Cahill, van Aanholt – Kouyate, Milivojevic, McArthur – Townsend, Meyer – Ayew

Burnley are in real turmoil when it comes to squad depth right now. Three senior strikers – Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood, and Jay Rodriguez – are all now injured, so Sean Dyche is likely to revert to a 4-5-1 formation on Monday with Matej Vydra up top by himself. Aaron Lennon and Joe Hart are leaving the club, but the big loss is Jeff Hendrick after the midfielder rejected a short term contract extension amid rumours of AC Milan interest.

Burnley predicted lineup: Pope – Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor – McNeil, Brownhill, Cork, Westwood, Pieters – Vydra

Prediction: Our prediction is a home win or a draw for Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this evening.
