Napoli Signs Leander Dendoncker On Loan From Aston Villa For Rest Of The Season

Aston Villa midfielder Leander Dendoncker has joined Italian club Napoli on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

Napoli were in talks to sign Dendoncker earlier this week. The Belgium international had his medical earlier this week ahead of a move to Naples, with the Serie A club retaining the option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The 28-year-old has made eight appearances for Villa in the Premier League this season but seven of those have been as a substitute.

Belgium international Dendoncker joined Villa from Wolverhampton Wanders for £13m in September 2022.

He has made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Villans.

Dendoncker scored his only goal for Villa in their 3-2 defeat by Manchester United last month on a rare Premier League start.

He is the second player to leave Villa in the January transfer window following attacking midfielder Finn Azaz’s permanent switch to Middlesbrough.

Villa boss Unai Emery signed defender Kosta Nedeljkovic for an undisclosed fee from Red Star Belgrade earlier this week with the 18-year-old remaining with the Serbian club for the remainder of the season.

Dendoncker’s contract at Villa runs until 2026. Napoli won Serie A last season and have progressed to the Champions League knockout stages this term after finishing second in Group C.

Napoli are currently ninth in Serie A having won their first Scudetto in 33 years last season.
