Liverpool Player Rating: Mohamed Salah Annihilates Old Club, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino Also Score
Liverpool scored five well-taken goals and conceded two late goals to allow Roma claw back into contention and offer them a ray of hope in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Anfield to set up a fascinating second leg in Rome next week.
The Egyptian magician Mohamed Salah was the hero of the day, as he scored twice against his former club and also provided two assists before he was substituted, Jurgen Klopp will be bitting his nails and pondering how on earth his side allow Roma a route back into an encounter that looked almost dead and buried.

Loris Karius – 6/10
He was solid in goal all night except for some momentary loss of concentration, he did the basic things right and can not be faulted for the two goals he conceded.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
Excellent in Defence and impressive in attack, the young right-back was lively and threatening throughout the match.
Dejan Lovren – 5/10
He was at fault for Roma’s first goal as he misjudged the pass and allowed Dzeko to score at the near post.
Virgil van Dijk – 7/10
A masterclass display from the big Dutch defender. He got Liverpool moving forward with some excellent switches of play
Andrew Robertson – 7/10
Bumped forward relentlessly like his life depended on it, he was solid at the back but missed one gilt-edged chance with the score still at 3-0.
James Milner – 7/10
Milner was dominant in midfield, he controlled and dictated play from the midfield and combined superbly with Henderson, a commendable performance from the English man.
Jordan Henderson – 8/10
He was energetic and full of running, constantly breaking down all Roma’s attacking threat. He dominated the midfield with a powerful performance that reminded everyone what he is capable of doing on a good day. Henderson had a great performance.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10
He had a nasty head injury after a collision with Aleksandar Kolarov and was taken off after only 18 minutes, but hopefully will be fit for the return leg in Rome next week.
Mohamed Salah – 10/10
What else can one say about this magician from the Nile, he had a faultless and breathless display, an absolutely superb performance. His two goals were well taken, while his two assists capped a memorable display against his former team, he is simply incredible.
Robert Firmino – 9/10
Firmino was electrifying and relentless, a great performance from the Brazilian, he worked tirelessly to help out in the defence and boosted the attack whenever necessary. He scored twice in the second half to cap an excellent display.
Sadio Mane – 7/10
Mane missed a couple of glorious chances in the first half but kept his nerve, continued working hard and eventually got rewarded with a goal after the break.
Substitutes:
Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10
Wijnaldum worked very hard to keep the Liverpool midfield ticking all night after he came on for the injured Oxlade-Chamberlain. However, he missed a very good chance to make it six late on.
Danny Ings – 4/10
He surprisingly came on to replace Salah in the 75th minute, he didn’t make any contribution worthy of mention in the match. He was virtually anonymous in the right-wing position
Ragnar Klavan – N/A
He was a stoppage-time replacement for Firmino as Klopp made sure Liverpool didn’t concede a third by running down the clock.
