Iceland Announces Official World Cup Squad To Battle Nigeria In Group D

Iceland has announced their squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Coach Heimir Hallgrímsson in a press conference introduced the 23 players who will represent Iceland at the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The press conference was held in Laugardalsvöllur, the national stadium, and with this official announcement Iceland has become the first country to publicly release its squad list for the World Cup in Russia.

“This is the team that we feel will give us the best chance in Russia”, commented Coach Heimir during the press conference.

Iceland Coach Heimir Hallgrímsson can replace injured player just before the commencement of the World Cup from a list of reserve or alternate players.

Iceland will play two friendly matches on home soil as part of their preparations for the World Cup. The matches will take place on the 2nd of June, first against Norway, and then on the 7th of June against African opposition in Ghana.

Iceland will play against Croatia, Argentina and Nigeria. The Icelandic team will play their first match against Argentina at the Spartak Moscow Stadium on the 16th June.
