CAF Confirms Super Eagles AFCON 2023 Provisional Squad List

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as submitted by the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.

CAF unveiled the list on its official website on Wednesday morning.

Peseiro is expected to make his final squad submission to CAF before the January 3 deadline expires.

Three local players made the list. Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba FC), Christian Nwoke (Sporting Lagos FC), and Obasogie Amas (Bendel Insurance).

Following a decision by the CAF Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations, all 24 teams will be permitted a final squad of 27 players.

The registration of the four additional players on the final list is only an option and not an obligation.

The final tournament will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in the Ivorian cities of Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, San Pedro, and Yamoussoukro.

In case a team submits a final squad of between 24 and 27 players, only 23 of them will be available for selection for each match during the tournament.

Meanwhile, a player in the final squad can only be replaced after a serious injury no less than 24 hours before the team’s first match following the approval of the medical certificate by the CAF Medical Committee.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will embark on a crucial training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from January 2nd to January 9th.

Ademola Olajire, the Media Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed, “The team will be camping in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates from the 2nd of January until the 9th, and they leave Abu Dhabi on the 9th to arrive in Lagos. Then, on the 10th, they depart to Abidjan.

Preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will commence on January 2nd, 2024, as the Super Eagles gear up for the competition. This three-time African champion is set to camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Invited players are expected to start arriving at camp on January 1st, setting the stage for the team’s intense training and preparation.
