This won’t be easy against an Elfsborg side that have done things the other way around. They made a dreadful start to the campaign, starting out with 3 straight defeats and just 1 win from their opening 9 games. Coach Jimmy Thelin, only appointed in the winter, has really eased the pressure on himself since then though by inspiring a winning run that has seen Elfsborg start to climb the league.

Including a couple of friendlies in the mid-season break, Elfsborg have won five on the bounce heading into this match. They netted twice or more in all of those games and are now looking much sharper in the final third, which has been key to their recent revival. Substitute Viktor Prodell was their hero last time out, coming off the bench to bag two late goals and clinch victory at Orebro and that result ensures their momentum continues heading into this one.

It feels like Hammarby’s bubble has now burst. They only finished 9th last term so nobody really expected them to set such electric pace at the top of the division but they’ve possibly been found out a bit now. They’ve taken just 1 point from their last 3 league outings with a 2-1 home defeat against Ostersunds far from the ideal way for them to return after the summer break.

They’ve got a really poor record on this ground and against Elfsborg overall too so the omens aren’t good for them here. Defensively there are still issues to iron out though for Elfsborg.
