Atletico Madrid Vs Nigeria Friendly: Torres, Oblak, Gameiro, Gabi, and Vitolo To Hit Uyo For The Match
Ahead of Tuesday’s friendly match between Atletico Madrid and second string Super Eagles side dominated by home-based players and a handful of overseas players, the Spanish club has released an official list of players that will prosecute the match scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The 20 man Atletico Madrid squad consist of notable names like Jan Oblak, Vitolo, Juanfran, Gabi, Kevin Gameiro, Fernando Torres and Ghanian international Thomas Partey. The Atletico team is expected to arrive in Uyo before Tuesday morning ahead of the match against Super Eagles B side in a friendly match.

The list was released by the official Twitter handle of the Spanish club on Monday. However top stars like Antoine Griezmann, Koke and Diego Costa were understandably not part of the 20 man squad as they have been excused to begin preparations for the World Cup with their various national teams.
“The LaLiga season is over and we’re going to play a friendly in Nigeria with Oblak, Werner, Juanfran, Sergi, Montero, Solano, Jota, Rafa Muñoz, Thomas, Gabi, Vitolo, Toni Moya, Agüero, Olabe, Mikel Carro, Joaquín, Torres, Correa, Gameiro and Borja,” Atletico’s verified Twitter handled stated.
Atletico Madrid narrowly defeated an NPFL All-Stars team 2-1 in the Trofeo de Carranza tournament in Cadiz two years ago, the NPFL All Stars team was coached by Salisu Yusuf who is also in charge of the Super Eagles team taking on Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
Goals from Nicolas Gaitan and Diego Godin were all the Spaniards needed to caged the Nigerians who had bowed 4-1 to Malaga in their first game.
Abdulrahman Bashir had levelled for Salisu Yusuf’s side after Gaitan powered Diego Simeone’s men ahead in the 33rd minute. And in the closing minutes of the game, Godin headed home the winner from a corner kick after he was left unmarked.
Atletico won this season’s UEFA Europa League after thrashing Marseille 3-0 in the final last week. They finished second in the just concluded LaLiga season on 79 points.
