Rudi García’s Lyon side is still to really get going under the Frenchman but they got the win at the weekend, beating Strasbourg 2-1 in a rather drab match in the east of France. Since the arrival of the manager, Lyon has been very good going forward but rather lacklustre at the back.

They have 14 goals in their nine games under García, which is a solid ratio for a team aiming to finish rather high up the table. However, many feel they should be doing even better than that with the players they have at their disposal, like Memphis Depay, Houssem Aouar and one of Europe’s most wanted strikers Moussa Dembélé.

They could also be doing a lot better defensively, as they have conceded 11 goals in their nine games under García. Four of these came in three games against teams in the bottom 10, so improvements will need to be made if they want to beat Lille here. Les Gones’ home form under García has improved, though, as they have won their last three games at the Groupama. 

Lille has also been underperforming this season but are sticking by manager Christophe Galtier, unlike Lyon who quickly dispatched of Sylvinho when the going got tough. Les Dogues have won just one of their last six games in all competitions but it came in their most recent game, as they squeezed past Dijon 1-0 at home. It wasn’t a vintage performance from Lille and it’s clear to see they’re in need of some inspiration at the moment.

Their away record has been truly abysmal, with their form sheet currently looking like a sea of red with dashes of amber thrown in for good measure. They haven’t won a game on the road since March and have lost seven of their nine away games so far this season. Les Dogues have managed to score in five of their last six away matches but will find it difficult here as they travel to the Groupama.

Lyon haven’t been outstanding this season but their home form has been impressive and we feel that will be enough to see them past Lille here. Each of the last five clashes between these sides has been exciting matches with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals in each one and we’re backing the same to happen here in a 2-1 win for the hosts.

We’re also backing Lyon to score over 1.5 goals as they have done so in their last three matches at home and against Lille, while their opponents have conceded at least one goal in six of their last eight home games.  Our main prediction is a home win or a draw for Lyon.
