Manchester City vs Manchester United, England – FA Cup, Wembley Stadium, Time: 15:00

The FA Cup final takes place this Saturday as Premier League champions Manchester City face EFL Cup winners and city rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

Both of these teams are going for domestic doubles and City could claim an incredible treble this season, as they face Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10.

The fact City will have one eye on their European date isn’t a huge concern as boss Pep Guardiola has been able to rest players in the league after wrapping up the title with a few rounds of fixtures to spare and he should name his strongest available XI.

It’s time to bash the bookies and gradually recover all that you’ve lost to the bookies in the past. United had to work hard for their top-four finish as Liverpool applied late pressure but they were able to rest a few key man against Fulham in the final round of games after securing Champions League football with a game to spare.

The Old Trafford side has been dealt an injury blow ahead of the final, however, as Anthony Martial has been ruled out with a hamstring problem. Antony is rated as a doubt but is expected to be available.

City’s Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, Manuel Akanji, and Ruben Dias all sat out against Brentford but are expected to return.

FA Cup finals are usually fairly cagey affairs and four of the last six have been settled by one goal, while one has gone to penalties. The one anomaly during that run was a 6-0 victory over Watford for Manchester City and they can buck the trend again by winning with a -1 handicap on Saturday.

United did win the last meeting between these sides 2-1 but that was at Old Trafford, and they have been far stronger on home soil than anywhere else this season.

Wembley is of course a neutral venue rather than an away game, but road form is perhaps more useful when trying to work out how the final will play out.

United failed to score last time they were at Wembley, ultimately beating Brighton on penalties in the semi-finals of this competition, and they have won just three of their last 19 away games – a run that includes a 7-0 loss at Liverpool, a 3-0 defeat at Sevilla and defeats at Newcastle, West Ham, and Brighton.

City beat United 6-3 in their home derby game this season and have won eight of their last 11 games, with five of those victories coming by two or more goals, so they can win at Wembley.

United have scored five goals in two games against Guardiola’s men this term and have scored in each of their last four games, hitting nine goals in total.

City have gone two games without a clean sheet and have managed just two shut outs in their last seven games away from their Etihad Stadium home, so it seems likely both teams will score.

Erling Haaland obviously appeals as a potential scorer but at a bigger price, Riyad Mahrez is worth a mention ahead of the final.

The Algerian has been excellent in this competition this term with five goals, meaning he is the tournament’s second-highest scorer, after his hat-trick in the last four win over Sheffield United.

Casemiro is a clean card contender for United and Bruno Fernandes is another to consider, and both have been booked in clashes with City this season, while Marcus Rashford is a potential scorer for Erik Ten Hag’s men and is worth considering in the shots on target market.

From a City perspective, card contenders are a little harder to call and none of their players have been booked in a Manchester derby this term, but Bernardo Silva does have two yellow cards in his last four games and, as always, Kevin De Bruyne is a clear assist contender.
