Nigerian Premier League: Akwa United Pips Nasarawa United 1-0 To Move Up To Third Position On The Log
Akwa United Moved up to third position on the Nigerian Premier League table after a hard fought 1-0 win over struggling Nasarawa United, in a match played at the magnificent Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo. This was the last match for Nigerian Premier League round 12 fixtures. The Uyo based team started the match in blistering fashion by taking an early lead through a goal scored by Adeshina Gata in the 12th minute of the match.
Akwa United however was unable to increase their lead despite their best efforts as they wasted several begging chances. John Ubong Friday of Akwa United got a straight red card in the 90th minute, and despite the red card, the Uyo based team was able to hold on to their slim lead.
Nasarawa United despite the loss remains in 15th position on the league table, with just goal difference separating the Lafia based team from the relegation zone. Akwa United on the other hand, has two outstanding matches with one of them being a home match against struggling Heartland FC of Owerri, Akwa United can go top of the Nigeria Premier League table if they are able to win both matches.
In the next round of matches which is for week 13 of the Nigerian Premier League, Nasarawa United host Lobi stars, who are the current league leaders, while Akwa United’s away match to Rivers United has been postponed due to continental commitment of Akwa United in the CAF Confederation Cup.
