Arsenal comes into this Europa League clash in Azerbaijan as heavy favourites, but hosts Qarabag will have something to say about that. The Azerbaijani outfit has become regulars in European competition this decade, and after finally breaking through to the group stages in the 2014/15 campaign, they have slowly built their reputation on the continent.

Admittedly, Qarabag is yet to make it past the group stages of either the Europa League or the Champions League, but they have pulled off some impressive performances nonetheless. As you might expect, the majority of these successes have come on home soil as well.

Last season they held Atletico Madrid to a goalless draw both home and away, and in the past, they have taken points at home from Monaco, Inter Milan, Saint Etienne, PAOK, and Anderlecht, with the latter of these two games ending in a Qarabag victory.

Not only that, but they come into this game in high spirits. They have won five of their last six games in competitive football, with their only failure coming in their 2-0 loss to Sporting Lisbon in the first round of Europa League group games. They certainly won’t be writing themselves off here.

Arsenal is in good form though. They beat Watford 2-0 at the weekend to extend their winning streak to seven games in all competitions, which includes their 4-2 win against Vorskla last month. It is worth noting that the last four of these games have all been played at home, and their only two away victories this season have been narrow margins against the struggling Cardiff and Newcastle.

In fact, they were very fortunate to win that trip to Cardiff, with them twice getting pegged back by the battling Welsh club, only to score a late winner via Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners may have made it to the semi-finals of the competition last season, but they still failed to win three of their seven trips away in total. They’re facing a Qarabag side who have only lost three home games in the Europa League since the 2014/15 campaign, with ten of their 13 hostings in this period ending with them taking at least something from the game.

Admittedly the quality of the opposition hasn’t been fantastic in most cases, but considering how tense Arsenal have looked away from home at times this season we think Qarabag might be a difficult nut for Arsenal to crack, so we are backing an Arsenal Win or Draw Double Chance as our prediction for this match.
