It’s not been a great few weeks for Bayern Munich either though, but that would be an understatement by their standards. A sour 3-2 defeat in Der Klassiker just before the international break was followed up by a sloppy 3-3 draw at home to promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf. Coach Kovac will be well aware that his side dropped points from ahead in both those games – something the Bavarians clearly need to work on.

Bayern is now nine points behind Borussia Dortmund too, so their chase to retain the Bundesliga crown for a seventh consecutive time looks a lot harder. Tuesday’s 5-1 win at home to Benfica in the Champions League gave us a glimpse of the old Bayern, but now Bayern needs to find it within themselves to get back to their best in the league.

Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich meet for the 105th time in the Bundesliga this weekend – only two fixtures (Bremen v Hamburg and Bayern v Hamburg) have been contested more. For Bremen, as with most teams in the German top flight, this has ended badly more often than not –  in fact, Bayern has won each of their last 15 Bundesliga matches against Bremen.

And given how things have been going this season, Bremen’s chances of improving that record are better than ever. But for us, the focus of a bet on this match would be in seeing goals at both ends. Bremen and Bayern have been lacking any sort of defensive form as of late – Bayern hasn’t kept a clean sheet in eight Bundesliga games (W2 D3 L3), while Bremen have conceded 12 goals over their last four league outings – and yet going forward the sides have been doing alright.

Werder Bremen haven’t failed to score in any of their twelve Bundesliga matches this season, and with Bayern scoring at least one in each of their last nine competitive outings, then both teams to score looks the bet – you wouldn’t doubt them anyway would you?

Bayern do continue having to work around the absences of a few of their core players this weekend though (see team news), and there may even be a case for star man Robert Lewandowski being rested after the mid-week Champions League – Wagner would take his place.

Bayern hasn’t been able to replicate those sorts of scoring numbers away from home this season, scoring more than two goals in just one of eight away matches since early September, and going off all of this we just about fancy the Bavarians to clinch the win. Our prediction is an away win for Bayern Munich.
