What Is Iwobi’s Future At Fulham After Silva’s Exit?

Nigerian football star Alex Iwobi joined West London side Fulham FC almost three years ago in September 2023.

The former Arsenal player has been a fan favourite at Craven Cottage since then, scoring 19 goals in 110 appearances.

It seemed that he had a very good relationship with manager Marco Silva, who trusted Iwobi in the starting XI on many occasions.

In January 2025, Iwobi spoke about the “brotherhood” of the Fulham squad, which suggests how strong a bond Silva has managed to create.

This means that when Silva decided to leave Fulham for Benfica this summer, it could have big ramifications for the rest of the squad, including Iwobi.

Iwobi’s contract currently runs until the summer of 2028. Could other clubs be after him this summer, and how will Silva’s departure impact his future?

Fulham Appoints New Manager

Fulham have now replaced Marco Silva with former Real Madrid boss Álvaro Arbeloa, who left Los Blancos at the end of last season after finishing second.

Fans can see how Fulham may perform for the upcoming 2026/27 season with Arbeloa by checking out their odds for future games on live football betting sites.

Not much is known about Arbeloa’s style of play, as he has spent the majority of his career managing Real Madrid’s youth and reserve teams before finally getting his chance to manage the first team following Xabi Alonso’s departure in January 2026.

He is certainly very new to first-team management, and coaching Fulham will be a completely different task to managing the superstars of Real Madrid.

He may play more expansive, possession-based football, or he may have to go more defensive to compensate for Fulham’s limited finances compared to the ‘Top 6’.

This will greatly impact which players make the squad and which look to leave.

Iwobi’s style of play is very much focused on being a highly creative midfielder who can control the tempo of games and connect the defense to the attack.

This may not suit a manager who is hyper-defensive and focuses on low-blocks and long balls.

If it turns out that Arbeloa does follow this defensive style, then he may be looking to sell Iwobi, who is currently valued between €24.6 million and €30.1 million.

Iwobi Comments on Silva’s Exit

Alex Iwobi was recently asked about Silva’s exit, and his answers could give us a good indication of his current headspace and where his future lies.

It seems he is committed to his future at Fulham, saying, “Whoever the manager is, we’re ready to work with them,” showing he is not looking to leave the club just because a talented manager has left.

He even talked about his ability to adapt to a new manager’s style, which he was used to doing with his experience at Everton, where he stated that he “had several managers there, so it won’t be difficult for me to adapt.

Further commenting that “We’ll be ready to play whoever the manager is.”

So, with no transfer news surrounding Iwobi, it seems the Super Eagles midfielder is committed to staying at Fulham for the foreseeable future.
