Nigeria Players Roundup: Onyekuru Scores First League Goal For Galatasaray

Turkey: Galatasaray took on Goztepe in the second round of matches in the Turkish Super Lig, at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi Turk Telekom Stadyumu. Everton loanee Henry Onyekuru started for the League defending Champions Galatasaray and in the42nd-minute Onyekuru raced to a delightful pass from his teammate Fernando to lob over the onrushing Goztepe goalkeeper to score his first league goal of the season.

Nduka Ozukwo and Lanre Kehinde Olanrewaju were rooted to the bench of Ankaragucu for 90 minutes as they travelled away to Alanyaspor to claim a comfortable 2-0 victory against the host.

Elsewhere in the Turkish Super Lig, Aminu Umar started for Rizespor away to Akhisarspor, Umar played for 85 minutes before he was replaced by Ogulcan Caglayan as he helped his team Rizespor to secure a valuable away point in a 1-1 draw at the Spor Toto Akhisar Stadyumu.

England: German-born Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Leon Balogun made his Premier League debut for Brighton as they hosted Mourinho and Manchester United at the AMEX stadium. Balogun came on in the 20th minute to replace the injured Lewis Dunk in the heart of Brighton’s defence. Balogun put up a great performance to help Brighton record a shock 3-2 victory over the Red Devils.

At Turf Moor, where Burnley entertained Watford, Isaac Success made a cameo appearance for Watford in the 89th minute of the encounter by replacing Troy Deeney. Watford won the match 3-1 to make it two wins out of two matches played so far in the league.

France: Samuel Kalu started for Bordeaux away to Toulouse at the Stadium Municipal, Kalu who was making his French Ligue 1 debut played all 90 minutes for Bordeaux but could not prevent the visitors from slumping to a 2-1 lost to Toulouse.

Italy: Chelsea loanee and Super Eagles hopeful Ola Aina made his Serie A debut in the colours of Torino as he replaced the injured Lorenzo De Silvestri in the 25th minute. It was however not a happy debut for Ola Aina as Torino lost at home 1-0, thanks to a late Edin Dzeko’s goal which was enough to give Roma its first three points of the new campaign.

William Troost-Ekong made his Serie A debut by starting for Udinese against Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, Ekong played the full 90 minutes as he helped Udinese secure a valuable away draw in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

At the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara, where Bologna hosted Spal. Nigerian youngster Orji Okwonkwo was an unused substitute for Bologna as the home team fell 1-0 to Spal through a 71st-minute goal scored by Jasmin Kurtic.

Russia: Fegor Ogude started for Yenisey Krasnoyarsk as they played away to FC Rostov at the Rostov Arena. Ogude and Yenisey were comprehensively thrashed 4-0 by the home team. Fegor Ogude, however, played all 90 minutes for Yenisey Krasnoyarsk.

PortugalChidozie Awaziem was an unused substitute for FC Porto who defeated Belenenses 3-2 in a league game in the Portuguese league on Sunday. Awaziem who has been linked with a move away from the club is yet to feature this season for FC Porto.

BelgiumDennis Bonaventure started for Club Brugge away to Royal Antwerp at the Bosuil Stadion. Club Brugge took the lead in the 66th minute through Ruud Vormer but they could not hold onto the lead as the home team grabbed a well-deserved equaliser in the 84th minute through Faris Haroun. Dennis Bonaventure was replaced in the 90th minute by Saulo Decarli.

Liverpool loanee and Super Eagles hopeful Taiwo Awoniyi started for Gent away to Eupen at the Kehrweg stadion. Awoniyi could not get on the scoresheet and was replaced in the 46th minute by Jonathan David. Gent won the pulsating encounter 3-2. His compatriot, Anderson Esiti was not listed for the encounter.

Denmark: In Denmark, The pair of Paul Onuachu and Frank Onyeka were second-half substitutes for Midtjylland who drew 1-1 away at OB Odense.
